Seaboard Marine recently completed a significant diesel emission reduction project, which included replacing six (6) yard tractors and one (1) 30-ton cargo handling forklift. This initiative was supported by the United States DERA 2023 grant awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The project was facilitated by Leonardo Academy, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainability. Leonardo Academy secured $283,851 in funding to replace six (6) Tier 1-3 Diesel Yard Trucks with six (6) Tier 4F Yard Trucks and one (1) Tier 3 Heavy Duty Forklift with one (1) Tier 4F HD Forklift.
The upgrades will result in substantially reduced emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulates from the operation of these vehicles, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
Seaboard is continuously reducing our fleet emissions as well as our company’s carbon footprint including:
- Purchase of 9 LNG-powered vessels
- Implementation of a Terminal Operating System which will reduce the wait time s of each truck entering and leaving the port thereby reducing emissions.
- Replacement of over 100 genset used to power refrigerated containers while being transported over the road with new Tier 4 low-emissions gensets.
Leonardo Academy employs an interdisciplinary approach to sustainability strategies, education, and implementation, aiming to make sustainability accessible to everyone by leveraging innovative tools and information to motivate the competitive market.
