POSITION SUMMARY:                  

This position serves as the primary liaison between the customers and United States Customs Border and Protection agency to expedite the export of vehicles by ensuring the required documentation is in compliance with United States Customs regulations. This position also aids in the inspection of incoming export vehicles (such as trucks, cars, buses, etc.) and loose cargo and enters the necessary information into the handheld device. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • One (1) year of experience in the logistics or transportation industry.
  • Ability to type 35 wpm accurately with minimal errors.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must possess basic computer skills (in programs such as Outlook, MS Word and Excel).
  • Must be able to communicate at a basic level in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
  • Possess good telephone etiquette and have well-developed customer service/interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, multitask and possess strong initiative.
  • Ability to follow procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and fellow employees.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.  Must be able to prioritize and be detail oriented.
  • Ability to work extended hours, holidays and/or weekends, as needed.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.

Preferred      

  • Possess working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and export documentation
  • Experience working with the AS400 system.
  • Experience operating a forklift at OSHA standards.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Assist and guide customers in the process of validating paperwork to meet U.S. Customs regulations for the export of self-propelled vehicles (19 CFR Part 192).
  • Match customer documentation (letter of intent, title, etc.) processed with U.S. Customs to the dock receipt (pending custom’s clearance) using the digital mailbox.  
  • Execute letters of intent for cargo received at the PortMiami terminal for export by verifying receipt of cargo via the AS400.
  • Verify export validation for each vehicle or unit and authorize export by entering the “ship by” date on the AS400 system.
  • Notify traffic departments of any problems with documentation and troubleshoot as needed.
  • Advise the traffic departments of any changes concerning validation of documents made by U.S. Customs.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.
  • Communicate via phone taking instructions to export cars/cargo to clients in the Dominican Republic.

Secondary

  • Responsible for receiving transporters and providing assistance during the check-in process.
  • Checks booking number before receiving vehicles and/or cargo to ensure accuracy.
  • Contacts supervisors and/or the Dispatch department to inform and resolve any discrepancies with the booking.
  • Inspects all in-coming vehicles and enters information into the hand-held computers.
  • Records all discrepancies and/or damages on the Vehicle Dock Receipt and hand-held computer.
  • Documents with label date received, booking number, serial number, D/R number also responsible for Tag Flag (color coded) in which they label by flags for specified location.
  • Loads/drives the vehicle into the container/car racks and sets up ramps and straps, which are used to secure the vehicles once in the container/car racks.
  • Operates a forklift to maneuver inoperable vehicles to the staging areas and setting up ramps. Must be able to perform set up for containers/car racks including setting up racks, opening gates, staging straps, secure cars with straps, prepare for malfunctions of vehicles including dead batteries and/or parts and equipment.
  • Must maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use fingers at all times.

  • The employee is frequently required to lift/carry up to 10lbs and push/pull up to 30lbs.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. 
  • The employee is continuously required to walk, grasp, reach forward, talk, hear and use eye-hand coordination.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, twist, pinch, bend forward, and use eye-hand-foot coordination, repetitive wrist motion, finger dexterity.
  • The employee must continuously use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, squat, reach overhead, lift/carry up to 20lbs and use repetitive foot motion.

  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or twist, and smell.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision form the Vehicle Receiving Supervisor. Does not exercise supervision over any position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Indoor office environment (80%) and outdoor environment (20%).
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving vehicles (cars, trucks, etc).
  • May be required to work on holidays and weekends as necessary.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
