On Saturday February 6, 2010, several employees of Seaboard Marine attended Food For The Poor’s “New Hope, New Beginnings” gala in Boca Raton, FL. Thanks to the generosity and unwavering support of the South Florida community, Food For The Poor was able to raise funds from this event alone to build more than 150 concrete housing units for Haiti’s earthquake victims. Established in 1982, Food For The Poor is a 501(c)(3) corporation whose goals are to improve the health, economic, social and spiritual conditions of the men, women and children they serve throughout 17 countries in the Caribbean Basin.
Jose Perez-Jones, Senior VP of Seaboard Marine said, “Seaboard Marine has had a strong long-term partnership with Food For The Poor. Over the years, together we have carried and distributed food and relief cargoes to many countries. Due to the tragic earthquake in Haiti last month, our relationship has grown stronger as Seaboard Marine has shipped hundreds of containers of humanitarian goods provided by Food For the Poor to the Haitian people. Our employees and family members who attended this remarkable event are proud not only to have participated in Seaboard Marine’s sponsorship, but also to be an ongoing partner of such a worthy and noble cause. We have tremendous admiration and praise for the incredible service that Food For The Poor and its team provide daily to those that are less fortunate.”
Seaboard Marine encourages its friends and partners to donate to this wonderful organization at www.foodforthepoor.org.
