As a result of the impact of Hurricane Sandy in the Port of New York/New Jersey area, Port Authority Officials have closed all port terminal facilities and the harbor is currently closed to vessel traffic. It is not yet known when these facilities and the harbor will reopen. Preliminary reports indicate there was widespread flooding in the Port of New York/New Jersey and it is expected more heavily impacted facilities will not likely be fully operational for some time. Currently, only emergency personnel are permitted access to any port facilities. Once Port Authority Officials lift access restriction, personnel will further assess conditions and will notify affected customers accordingly.
Due to this “force majeure” event and the significant impact on Port of New York/New Jersey terminal operations, effective immediately, Seaboard Marine is unable to accept any booking for all water service to and from Brooklyn, New York and Port Newark, New Jersey. Seaboard Marine is able to offer transportation options to the same ports serviced by its Brooklyn vessels via other ports called by Seaboard Marine. Please contact your Seaboard Marine representative for assistance.
Seaboard Marine’s vessel scheduled to call Brooklyn’s Red Hook Container Terminal on Friday, November 2, 2012 (M.V. “Spica”) has been diverted and will not make its scheduled call. Seaboard Marine asks customers with cargo loaded on-board to contact their local representative to discuss alternatives.
Seaboard will continue to pass along updates to customers as further information becomes available.
