The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce held its third annual International Business Leadership Awards event this afternoon. The event recognized international businesses that significantly impact the economy of the State of Florida. Seaboard Marine was proudly honored as the winner of the Business Retention and Expansion Award.

As the leading business advocacy organization in all of South Florida, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) has supported companies of all types and sizes in their efforts to grow, particularly in the international arena.

In bestowing the award on Seaboard Marine, the GMCC noted that in this current challenging economic environment, Seaboard Marine has reaffirmed its commitment as the premier carrier in the Caribbean Basin. Seaboard Marine was lauded for its long-term partnership with the Port of Miami which has benefited the entire business community in Miami-Dade County as the Port of Miami, known by many as the “Gateway to the Americas”, has a $17 billion annual economic impact to the State of Florida. Seaboard now carries over 40% of the cargo that passes through the Port of Miami.

Edward Gonzalez, Seaboard Marine’s President said, “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and its broad and diverse membership. We are the largest carrier at the Port of Miami due to the incredible support of the local business community. Many of the same firms that supported us when we started in 1983 continue to support us and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve them. Our employees are proud to help drive the ‘international trade’ engine that creates tens of thousands of jobs and benefits our local community while strengthening Miami’s ties with our Caribbean and Latin neighbors.”
