The United States Domestic Fuel Surcharge (USDFS) is applicable on all motor, motor/rail, and rail moves routed via Carrier’s designated United States Port of Loading or Port of Discharge for the inland points defined in a Tariff TLI or Service Contract. The Inland Search applies the USDFS percentage applicable as of the inland search date.
The USDFS is based upon the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Index of the average monthly retail on-highway diesel prices across all types in the U.S. (in dollars per gallon, including all taxes). The DOE index can be located by calling 202-586-6966 or accessed on the web at www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/.
The USDFS percentage is determined based on the average of the most recent two prior Tuesday announcements of the weekly national average price of diesel fuel, as published by the DOE, Energy Information Administration (EIA).
The calculated average serves as the basis for the applicable USDSF percentage and is announced every two weeks subject to 30 days notice.
Example: The USDSF percentage effective Sunday, April 12, 2026, is based on the average of the DOE/EIA weekly diesel fuel prices announced on March 3, 2026 and March 10, 2026.
The applicable charge percentage is derived from the table below.
