The principal ports in Guatemala remain blocked today due to a strike involving workers protesting changes in local Customs requirements. These workers have blockaded the entrance and exit gates so that cargoes are unable to enter or leave the main ports of Santo Tomas and Puerto Barrios.

Seaboard Expands Ro/Ro Service to South America

Seaboard Marine will soon start a new bi-weekly Ro/Ro service to/from Ecuador, Peru and Chile. The first sailing will be the M/V Seaboard Florida which will depart from the Port of Miami on Saturday, August 14th; followed by the M/V Seaboard Star on August 28th.

Seaboard Receiving 721 New 45-foot (102” wide) Containers

Seaboard Marine has recently received the majority of 721 new 45-foot (102-inch wide) new dry containers that have been ordered in 2010. These extra width containers have been immediately deployed to serve customers in Central America and the Caribbean.

The Border Police of Honduras approached Seaboard Marine last year seeking support for the development of their K9 security force at the port of Puerto Cortes. The specially trained dogs were in the process of being donated by the U.S. Embassy, however, they needed a home.

M/V Seaboard Intrepid at Port of Miami

The M/V Seaboard Intrepid (“Intrepid”) experienced a weather event south of Key West, Florida on January 25, 2010 while en route to Honduras. The conditions caused certain cargo to shift and approximately thirty containers went overboard. Seaboard’s salvage crews have since attended to the lost containers, most of which were empty. No crew members were injured.

A massive earthquake struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti on January 12. Seaboard's local Haiti office, as well as a team of employees from the U.S. that arrived over the weekend, are still evaluating the situation.
