Seaboard Receives 674 New 40-foot Refrigerated Containers
January 24, 2013
Seaboard Marine has recently received 340 new 40-foot refrigerated (reefer) high-cube containers. The reefers, which will be used throughout the Seaboard Marine network, were delivered in Santo Tomas, Guatemala last week in preparation for the peak perishables season. Further, 334 more new forty-foot reefers have been manufactured in Asia and loaded on a Seaboard vessel this week for delivery to Santo Tomas next month.
“Seaboard Marine continues to make a strong and steady effort to meet the needs of our customers for state-of-the art equipment. The delivery of these 674 brand new reefer containers, in addition to 430 new reefers received in October, 2012, goes a long way to providing our customers with clean, modern and reliable equipment. Besides these recently acquired 1,104 reefer containers, we added 520 similar units in late 2011. The upgrading and enlarging of our reefer container fleet not only addresses customer requirements, it also helps with CO2 emission reductions,“ said Edward Gonzalez, Seaboard Marine President.
MCI, one of the world’s premier container manufacturers, built all 1,634 of these steel containers over the last eighteen months. Each container has a capacity of 2,398 cubic feet. A leader in developing environmentally friendly sustainable solutions and products, MCI’s construction processes minimize material use while optimizing structural strength, which amongst other features, makes these units more energy efficient, hygienic and repair friendly. Combined with improved energy consumption and lower emissions, these new reefer containers create a positive environmental impact.
“Seaboard Marine is proud of our efforts to help the environment by introducing new energy efficient containers. It is particularly gratifying when we are able to do so while meeting the high quality standards that our customers expect and deserve,” added Gonzalez.
