Seaboard Receiving 721 New 45-foot (102” wide) Containers
July 26, 2010
July 26, 2010. Seaboard Marine has recently received the majority of 721 new 45-foot (102-inch wide) new dry containers that have been ordered in 2010. These extra width containers have been immediately deployed to serve customers in Central America and the Caribbean.
“The shipping industry has been a roller-coaster over the last several years, but Seaboard has constantly strived to not only provide our customers the highest quality equipment but also the right type,” said Edward Gonzalez, Seaboard Marine President. “We are investing in new 45’ x 102” wide containers to meet the specific needs of many key customers, particularly those with two-way cargoes.”
In the first six months of this year, 433 of these specialized containers were received and are now being used within the Seaboard Marine system. Meanwhile, another 289 are currently under construction at the manufacturer, Singamas. In late August, they will be loaded in Qingdao, China on-board the M/V Seaboard America, a new ship that will soon be entering the Seaboard Marine vessel fleet.
Once these 289 containers are delivered, Seaboard Marine will have nearly 2,900 of the specialized 45’ x 102” containers, all owned, within its equipment network. These dry containers are part of a broad and diverse container and chassis fleet that consists of nearly 54,000 pieces of cargo-carrying equipment.
