CSX Congratulates Seaboard Marine as Environmental Award Winner.
April 22, 2010
CSX tonight congratulated the winners of its second-annual Environmental Awards, highlighting customers, including Seaboard Marine, whose commitment to a "green" supply chain includes reducing carbon emissions. The awards were presented this evening in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of the company's week-long Earth Day celebration.
CSX recognized 29 customers who together avoided over 900,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions by shipping with CSX. The awards specifically recognized customers who led their industries in CO2 emissions avoidance in 2009; demonstrated the greatest improvement in avoided emissions in 2009 versus 2008; or deserved special recognition for their commitment to sustained supply chain practices through the use of rail or intermodal transportation. Seaboard Marine was the only ocean shipping line to be honored.
"We're proud to partner with our customers to move the goods essential to Americans' everyday lives in the most environmentally-friendly way possible," said Clarence W. Gooden, executive vice president, sales and marketing and chief commercial officer, CSX. "The efficiency of freight rail transportation drives our nation's ability to compete in the global economy while preserving the environment in which we all live."
Jose Concepcion, Seaboard's VP-Central America said, "Seaboard Marine has worked vigorously in recent years with our rail partners, particularly CSX, in providing cost-efficient and timely deliveries through the Port of Miami for our out-of-state customers in the Southeast and Midwest. Every day we are providing a seamless intermodal solution that is annually delivering thousands of containers faster, cheaper and better than previous 'all truck' deliveries. Not only are there proven economic advantages, but there are terrific environmental benefits as well. We are honored to have been recognized by CSX and applaud their environmental contributions."
