Continuing Venezuela Port Congestion
December 01, 2008
Dear Valued Customer:
As you know, for several months severe congestion has effected service to the Venezuelan ports of Puerto Cabello and La Guaira. Congestion and associated delays continues at this time and it is unclear when these problems will be resolved. All carriers, including Seaboard Marine, continue to experience significant delays obtaining access to working berths in Puerto Cabello and La Guaira to discharge and load cargo. These delays and inefficiencies have resulted in substantial economic costs to shipping lines including ourselves.
Certain carriers have temporarily suspended service to Venezuela ports and others are discharging and holding cargo at other port facilities in surrounding countries. Seaboard Marine remains committed to continuing service to the effected ports. Seaboard Marine’s customers, especially shippers of perishable commodities, must remain mindful of the expected delays, which may be more than a week. These circumstances are beyond the control of Seaboard Marine, and Seaboard Marine accepts no responsibility for resulting delay or damage of any kind.
Please contact our customer service departments for the current status of vessel sailing schedules to Puerto Cabello and La Guaira.
