Seaboard Marine’s Jose Perez-Jones, on behalf of the Caribbean Central American Action Committee (CCAA), last week presented Congressman Charles “Charlie” Rangel with the CCAA’s annual “Star of the Caribbean Award” at the Library of Congress.
Rangel (D-NY) has been a member of Congress for 37 years. Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rangel is respected for his pragmatism. He has often supported free trade agreements with Caribbean and Latin countries as well other efforts to promote positive dialogue and relations with the United States.
Perez-Jones, Chairman of the CCAA, said, “Congressman Rangel has been a true friend of the Caribbean for many years. He has tirelessly promoted the region and understands the importance of a strong Caribbean and Latin America to U.S. interests. It is an honor to present him with the ‘Star of the Caribbean’ award.”
Founded in 1980, the CCAA promotes private sector-led economic development in the Caribbean Basin and throughout the Hemisphere. The organization conducts policy-oriented programs in sectors such as financial services, transportation, energy, agriculture, apparel, intellectual property rights, tourism, telecommunications, and information technology.
